Black College Fair and Career Fair

In order to introduce high school students to the opportunities at the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) military academies other select colleges and community agencies the Black Achievers YMCA annually hosts a college Fair.

Thank you to the 2009 participants of the 22nd Annual Black College and Career Fair.  Over 1000 students from across Boston and surrounding areas packed into the Flynn Recreational Complex at Boston College.  Providing a mix of Historically Black Colleges and Universities as well as our local partner school, students were able to meet representatives from over 30 Universities, Colleges and Industries.  Some of the schools included:

Clark Atlanta University

 

Emerson College

 

Fisk University

 

Johnson C. Smith

 

Livingston College

 

Morehouse College

Roger Williams University

 

Springfield College

 

Suffolk University

 

Tuskegee University  

 

United States Merchant Marine Academy

 

West Virginia State University

 

Wheelock College

 

 

The Historically Black College and Career Fair introduces high school students to the opportunities at the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), the military academies, other select colleges and community agencies.

Admissions counselors and representatives are available from the attending colleges:

  • To inform students about the educational opportunities available at HBCUs and the other attending colleges

  • To provide information to students on financial aide, scholarship programs and college admissions requirements

  • To advise student about local community resources available for college planning

Students also get an opportunity to meet professionals from local companies are available as industry representatives.  The career component is not recruitment, it is an introduction and discuss about the careers within the represented industry and the educational and training required to enter these careers.
