About Us
The Organization
Black Achievers is a national program of the YMCA USA. Now operating in more than 100 YMCAs, the first Black Achievers began in 1971 in Harlem, New York. Black Achievers describes the origin and mission of the program. Today, however, the program includes all teens of color at YMCAs nationwide. Local program names may vary such as Black & Hispanic Achievers or Minority Achievers. In 1975 the YMCA of Greater Boston launched its own program to recognize Black employees who have achieved exemplary success in their professional lives
The reputation of the YMCA enables the Boston Black Achievers program to draw support from many local business and organizations. Through its Achievers Recognition Program, Black Achievers partners with over 50 area businesses. Its service programs, such a College Path and the Young Achievers Summer Institute, rely on relationships with high schools and colleges, community youth programs, and resource organizations.
Our programs are offered at no charge or very low charges to families due to the generosity of our sponsors and donors.
