Young Achievers Summer Institute
The Young Achievers Summer Institute is an innovative summer learning experience for middle school and high school students. Students entering 8th, 9th and 10th grade are encourage to participate in this unique career exploration program. Youth will be introduced to various careers in the arts, government and health and get a sneak peek at college life through field trips, speakers, workshops and activities on the campuses of area Colleges and Universities. Through each session, students will gain knowledge that will help them shape their own career paths and college aspirations. Students will develop leadership and networking skills through fun, interactive and hands on activities. Students can participate in one week or two weeks sessions, choosing one or all to attend.
Dates: July 6th - August 28th
Hours: 8:30am - 2pm
Cost: 1 week sessions - $87.50, 2 week sessions - $175

Summer Sessions
July 6th - July 17th
(Session 1A) Emerson College Arts and Communication Institute - Youth are introduced to the arts and communication through a partnership with Emerson College's Center for Diversity. Participants will be introduced to television production, print and broadcast journalism, stage and theater production, Internet and new media production, and video and film production.
(Session 1B) Edward Brooke Institute of Government, Politics and the Law - Youth are introduced to understanding local and national Politics through speaker series, films workshops and trips. Youth will look at the collegiate opportunities in law, government and politics, as well as learn skills that are highlighted in this field.
July 20th - July 31st
(Session 2A) Bridges, Planes and Robots: Engineering and Technology Institute- Learn about engineering and technology and how it relates to the world around you. Students will get an opportunity to build and create, all while learning about modern engineering.
(Session 2B) Shirley Chisholm Institute of Careers and Volunteerism - Learn about careers that have withstood the test of time. Youth will look at the history of various industries in Boston and how they continue today. They will be introduced to careers in transportation, archeology, art and architecture as well as public service and how they can impact the city
August 3rd - August 15th
(Session 3A) Dr. Benjamin Mays College Institute - Get a chance to walk around a college campus, meet a professor and take a class in this two week session exploring colleges and universities in Boston. Students will be introduced to schools in their own backyard through field trips and speakers.
(Session 3B) An eye on Boston through Photography - See Boston in a way that you've never seen the city before - behind the lens of a camera. This two week session will introduce students to the art of photography, while learning about the history of the city.
August 17th - August 21st
(Session 4A) Off the Field! - Everyone dreams of becoming a Basketball player, but have you ever envisioned yourself as the person running the team? This week long session will give students a piece of the history of Sports in Boston and a look at the careers in Sports that are take place off the field.
(Session 4B) Money Matters - Ever wondered where your money goes? Do you know how to make your money, make money? In this week intensive students will get an understanding of how the economy works, the many careers in finance and get a crash course on how to be a millionaire.
August 24th - August 28th
(Session 5) Beyond beats, rhymes and rhythms - In this session, students will look at the history of music, poetry and dance. Students will get a chance to work with professors and meet students who are carving their careers in the music industry.
Two Sessions are being offered simultaneously during each block(except August 24th-August 28th). Programs run from 8:30am-2:00pm, Monday through Friday.
