Free Fitness Classes at the Y
Stop by the Y for these fun and healthy classes that are open to the community.
The YMCA of Greater Boston is partnering with Boston Moves for Health as a community resource in the Million Pound Challenge to keep the city moving. We're offering free events and classes open to the community at all of our locations throughout the month of March to help Boston residents realize why getting and staying active is important. Thursday, March 7
Boxercise: 5:45 pm at the North Suburban Y
Boxercise takes the best aspects of workouts used by athletes and boxers and combines them into a fitness program for participants of all levels.
Zumbatomic: 7 pm at the Roxbury Y
A kid-friendly class with a combination of fun, easy-to-follow dance steps.

Core Strength: 10:05 am at the North Suburban Y
Challenge the muscles of your abdominals and lower back with a selection of exercises which strengthen and tone muscles, improve posture, flexibility and balance, and create a sleek, firm and strong core.

Tone Up: 10:35 am at the Charlestown Y
This class will challenge all major muscle groups by using exercises like squats, presses, lifts, and curls to build and define all the major muscles in your body.

Seniors in Motion: 9:30 am at the Huntington Ave Y
A combo class designed for seniors but welcome to all, featuring half an hour of low impact aerobics followed by a half hour of strength training using weights, medicine balls, and stability balls.
Tuesday, March 12
Fit to the Core: 6:45 am at the Huntington Ave Y
Abs and more! An intense 30-minute class that includes abdominal exercises such as crunches and curls, as well as Pilates-based core work and functional training, using the medicine ball, stability ball, bands, and weights.
Total Body Sculpt: 9 am at the North Suburban Y
A fun, high energy total body conditioning class that incorporates resistance tubing, Body Bars, Gliding disks, Balance balls and / or handheld weights to shape, tone and strengthen your body.
Zumba: 7:15 pm at the Roxbury Y
A combination of fun, easy-to-follow dance steps with hot Latin beats to help you shed pounds and inches fast. This class will have you sweating and smiling.

You’ll challenge all the muscles in your body, slash fat quickly, build muscular strength and endurance, increase flexibility, and boost your energy.

Muscle Conditioning: 1 pm at the Wang Y
This sculpting class builds muscle, strength and endurance using equipment including free weights, body bars, medicine balls, stability balls and more. This class will help you develop lean muscle mass that will tone, sculpt and strengthen your entire body.

Gentle Yoga: 8:30 pm at the Waltham Y
A gentler, slower paced practice that is more accessible to people of all sizes, ages, and fitness levels.
Indoor Cycling: 11 am at the Wang Y
Better known as Spin, this class will take you through a series of fun movements on our state of the art Keiser indoor bikes. You control your intensity but also have the instructor to guide and motivate you through the 45 minute cardiovascular bout.
Rope’n: 5:30 pm at the Charles River Y
A high intensity cardio class that combines strength, core, and jump roping to get and keep your metabolism burning!

Thursday, March 21
Yoga: 7:30 pm at the East Boston Y, Ashley Street
Yoga uses the breath as a focal point as we move through sequences of linked yoga asanas. This class includes sun salutations, pranayama (breathing exercises), and relaxation. Yoga is great for people of all ages and abilities, including athletes, seniors, youth, people recovering from injuries/illness and pre/post natal.

Wednesday, March 27
Tabata: 1:05 pm at the Charlestown Y
This circuit is simply doing an exercise for 20 seconds constantly then taking 10 seconds off before repeating the cycle for 8 cycles. This means you can get a hugely effective workout in about 4 minutes per exercise. This will test you not only aerobically but will build muscular endurance and strength.

Vinyasa Yoga: 5:45 am at the Hyde Park Y
A flowing style of yoga that deeply integrates breath and movement, awareness and alignment, and stability and flexibility.
