Financial Assistance

The YMCA of Greater Boston is a not-for-profit, health and human services organization committed to helping people reach their full potential in spirit, mind and body. YMCAs are here to serve people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and incomes. The YMCA is community based and believes that its programs and services should be available to everyone.

We strive to serve the entire community by providing financial assistance, which is determined by individual applicant needs. The money used to fund this program is made possible by charitable donations made to the YMCA by friends and members during our Annual Campaign, which is largely supported by the help of many volunteers.

Financial assistance is granted based on the need demonstrated by household income and/or extenuating circumstances.

Membership For All

As a non-profit, charitable organization, the YMCA of Greater Boston wants our services to be affordable for everyone. The Y's Membership For All program provides pricing for YMCA membership according to household income and ensures that we are there for those who need us most. Contact Member Services for more information. At the YMCA everyone is welcome!  And with your adult or family membership you are welcome at all of our locations.

ACCESS Program

Deeply rooted in our community, it is the mission of the YMCA to make our programs affordable for all. Programs are available to all regardless of age, income, ability, race or religion. Based on available resources and sliding scale eligibility, the Y will not turn anyone away due to an inability to pay full fees.  Our ACCESS program provides financial assistance based on need through an easy application process. Much of the financial assistance dollars shared are made possible through the generosity of those who contribute to our Annual Reach Out Campaign and United Way support. Download the ACCESS application form or ask Member Services for more information.

Sandy Island Family Camp Sponsorship

We sponsor five (5) active duty military families to camp each year (1 Army, 1 Navy, 1 Air Force, 1 Marine and 1 Coast Guard).  Each family is provided a free one week vacation to Sandy Island Family camp in NH which includes the lodging, meals and activities for the week. Through the program we sponsor the immediate family members of the military person selected regardless of family size (last year we sent a family of 7). Contact Steve Telesmanick for more information.

Shriners Hospital for Children - Boston

Reach Out contributions are also put towards hosting families that have a child receiving medical treatment at the Shriners Hospital for Children - Boston.  SHCB has patients from all over the world who need the specialized medical care only Shriners Hospital can provide.  During their stay in Boston the families stay at the Constitution Inn, and with Reach Out support we’re able to make their stay, sometimes months at a time, more affordable.  Contact Steve Telesmanick for more information.

FamilyAid Boston

Our Annual Fund also supports Travelers Aid Family Services for families who find themselves homeless and on the street, at police stations, or at hospitals in the middle of the night. Travelers Aid Family Services (TAFS) provides temporary emergency shelter, placing families into The Constitution Inn while they pursue longer-term solutions. Contact Steve Telesmanick for more information.

Achilles Marathon Event

In partnership with Achilles International, more than 70 handicapped military veterans race in their specialized wheelchairs in the Boston Marathon and call the Constitution Inn Y home for the weekend.  The Y provides deeply discounted rooms during marathon weekend (where you can’t get a hotel room for under $200) and we donate a dinner for the marathon participants and their families. Contact Steve Telesmanick for more information.

Additional Scholarships

Additional financial assistance for our programs and services may be available. Please inquire at the welcome center for more information.
