Summer Camp 2010

About Our Camp

  • June 28, 2010 through September 3, 2010
  • 8:00 am – 6:00 pm Monday through Friday
  • Ages 5 – 14 (please note: a limited number of 5 & 6 year old slots available)

Licensed by the Department of Public Health, the Dorchester and Roxbury YMCA Summer Camp is a traditional day camp program focused on the YMCA Character Value System of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility.

Each day, your child will expand his/her creative skills and imagination through activities such as curious creatures and plaster fun time. Children will also have the opportunity to participate in weekly swim time and instruction as well as weekly adventures, discovering fun and historic parts of Boston and the Roxbury community. Your child will learn the importance of respect and teamwork through group games, team building activities and social skills. Their artistic and innovative side will come alive with daily arts and crafts and camp songs. All of this will allow your child to make strong friendships that will last longer than summer camp.

About Our Staff

All Roxbury and Dorchester YMCA staff go through a thorough screening and training process prior to the start of camp. Although some staff are with us year round as After School Educators, others staff persons are acquired as well and are predominantly college students studying to be teachers of all varieties or social workers. All staff is CORI and SORI background checked as well as certified in First Aid, CPR and Child Abuse Neglect Prevention. Staff complete are also trained in behavior management, group games, team building activities, diverse learners and more. Out staff ensure that each child is treated as an individual when entering our camp programs and your child’s individual experience is one of their top priorities. Our camps are licensed by the Boston department of Public Health; staff not only meet but exceeds their requirements for staffing.  Children ages 5-6 are in small groups, maintaining a 1:5 staff to child ratio.  Children 7 and older are in groups of 10 children, maintaining a 1:10 ratio.
