ANNUAL FUND
Support the Annual Reach Out Campaign - Strengthen Your Community
Your support is necessary to fund many of the Y programs and services that families that are in need use every day. Together we can ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn grow and thrive in a YMCA program.
For more than 12 years, the East Boston Y has been helping people in our community improve the quality of their lives with programs that focus on healthy living, social responsibility and youth development. Our fitness and nutrition programs are educating and supporting members in their quest to live healthier lives.
Young people in our early education and care and afterschool programs are learning literacy skills and receiving academic support in conjunction with Boston Public Schools curriculum. The Y is empowering teens, socially and academically. Our Safe Dates Program provides the skills to help them make positive choices in their personal relationships, while our teen employment and free SAT programs give them the tools they need to be successful in school and beyond. And our active seniors have a place to stay connected to the activities and people that keep them young and living with a purpose. We care about our community and we continue to be here because you care and support our mission.
The Y of greater Boston’s vision is to be a cornerstone for social change, leading individuals and families of all backgrounds and at all stages of life to learn, thrive and improve our community. We’re well on our way in East Boston:
-
The Y serves 93 low-income children ages 15 months to five years with full day childcare and pre-K programming. 95% of the families are low-income and receive Y scholarships or state-funded slots or vouchers. The EB Y’s child care programs are all licensed by the State of Massachusetts—and the early education and care center maintains the highest level of accreditation awarded a child care center. This guarantees high standards for teacher training, education and curriculum development; on going evaluation of children’s progress and support for families.
The Y is the largest out of school time provider in East Boston, serving 245 young people in seven locations. 95% of families in after-school programs receive Y scholarships are state-funded slots or vouchers. The Y has aligned its curriculum with the Boston Public School’s Acceleration Agenda to ensure that all children are “reading by end of grade 1 and reading to learn in grade 3. The Y’s after-school site directors are partnering with local elementary school educators to create an after school curriculum that directly supports children who are struggling with their reading skills.
-
More than 200 children participate in the Y’s 10-week, full-day summer program. While the fee for a week of camp is $210, the average family pays $75 a week, with the rest subsidized.
-
Last year the East Boston Y sent 24 kids to Y overnight camp in New Hampshire for two weeks (cost approximately 1,200 each)—money raised through the generous support of Reach Out Campaign donors..
-
The Y sponsors 20 Summer Food Service Program sites throughout Boston, (seven in East Boston) serving more than 125,000 free meals to children under the age of 18.
-
The Y maintains a vibrant partnership with the East Boston High School, (providing “stay in school” and SAT Prep programming), and the East Boston Y is one of a handful of Ys in the country chosen to pilot a program designed to reduce teen dating violence and abuse. Our program offerings are expanding with the addition of a gym at our new Program Center on Ashley Street in Orient Heights.
-
Overall, the Y has approximately 1,400 Health & Wellness members—we have a state of the art fitness center with strength training, circuit training and cardio equipment—certified personal trainers and over 50 group exercise classes weekly.
We know the challenge of raising money is greater than ever, but so is the need. We’re hoping we can count on you for a contribution to the East Boston YMCA . Help us ensure that the East Boston YMCA continues to be the one constant that our families know they can depend on in these ever changing times.
While programs may develop in one neighborhood, the strength of the Y is that we leverage great programs and take those to other communities that then benefit. Again, at the Y, no child, family or adult is turned away due to an inability to pay full fees. We recognize that for communities to succeed, everyone must be given the opportunity to be healthy confident, connected and secure. We can only make that promise through the support of our donors to the Y’s Annual Fund.
Your gift to the Y’s Annual Fund is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
