English Classes

The International Learning Center has met the needs of English language learners since 1975. Intensive classes are geared toward achieving competent communication in English.

Tuition-based English Classes

  • 7 levels of instruction from beginner to TOEFL
  • Morning, afternoon, evening and Saturday classes
  • Credentialed, experienced faculty
  • Student network from over 35 countries
  • Computer labs, weekly lunches and personal support

New students can join a class at any time if space permits. Financial aid is available. Scholarships are provided through a generous donation from the Highland Street Foundation.

Free English Classes

>Massachusetts Department of Education funded

The MA Department of Education funds free English classes from September through June each year in two YMCA locations:

In Boston at the YMCA International Learning Center, 316 Huntington Avenue, 1st Floor, Boston, MA 02115.  Contact Susan Arida at 617-927-8186 or sarida@ymcaboston.org for more information.

>English for Employment

Designed to meet the needs of unemployed, recently laid-off, or low-income individuals with limited English language skills, English for Employment is eligible for funding from area Career Centers. English instruction is customized to meet learners' goals. Individual learning plans, created for three to 12 months, include computer literacy in English and employability skills. Participants receive support to transition to a job training program or enter into employment.
