Young Achievers Summer Institute
The Young Achievers Summer Institute is presented as three summer sessions. The sessions, two weeks each, are designed to introduce 8th, 9th and 10th graders to career and educational possibilities that they might not have otherwise considered. The students attend exciting field trips (college campuses, innovative businesses, unique cultural institutions) and meet engaging professional in various career fields.
The Young Achievers Summer Institute includes the following sessions:
Emerson College Arts and Communication Institute:
An exploration introducing youth to arts and the communication fields of study and occupations. This includes television production, print and broadcast journalism, stage and theater production, Internet and new media production, and video and film production. The Black Achievers Branch of the YMCA and Emerson College's Center for Diversity in the Communications Industries have teamed to present a unique interactive summer adventure
Madame CJ Walker Career Connections:
The Walker Career Connections will familiarize young people with the world of careers. During the two weeks the young achievers will be exposed to careers and activities related to the world of business. They will participate in discussions as well as visit some of Boston's leading corporations.
Dr. Benjamin Mays College Institute:
Explore college campuses, visit with various professors and see how colleges train students for the new careers in Boston. Find out what it's like to try a college assignment or experiment. Not your ordinary college tour. How does modern day college prepare for the careers or your future? Get acquainted with college graduates who have careers at some of Boston biggest corporations.
