Careers and Internships in Child Care
The YMCA of Greater Boston has over 50 child care programs and is Boston's largest provider of child care. Programs include infant/toddler care, preschool, and after school care. In the summer, many of our staff man fun and safe summer camps at the same locations, but which include additional seasonal activities and field trips. During school vacations, many of our facilities provide critical expanded child care for working parents.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts highly regulates group child care providers to ensure the safety and development of children. The Group Child Care and School Age Child Care regulations include the following requirements:
Infant-Toddler and Preschool Employees
Because of strict regulations and because we care about children, we take child care recruiting seriously. For working with small children we seek individuals certified by the Commonwealth as
- Teachers, Infant-Toddler and/or Preschool
- Lead Teachers, Infant-Toddler and/or Preschool
- Director I or a Director II

School Age Child Care Employees
The qualifications to be hired as a school age child care professional differ from those for working with younger children. We hire individuals with the following certifications to work in our after school programs:
- Program Administrator
- Site Coordinator
- Group Leader
- Assistant Group Leader
