Who do I contact to sign up?
Please call Leigh Payne Hewlett at (617) 542 1800, ext. 128. Leigh has been working with YMCA Training, Inc. for nearly 20 years and had helped thousands of people like you find jobs. -
What is your job placement rate?
We are the best job training program in Boston and our numbers show it. Over 80% of our graduates find jobs.
We work with graduates for as long as they need to find employment, even after the twenty week program has ended, if needed. The only people who do not find jobs are those who stop looking. -
How do you help me find a job?
From your first days here, we begin working on resumes, cover letters, and interviews. Our professional full-time staff assists in online job search and applications. Men and women from Boston businesses serve as volunteer mentors to coach you through job search and application. Our Business Development Manager makes connections with employers in Boston interested in hiring YMCA Training, Inc. graduates. -
What do I need to enroll?
Trainees must have a High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and a proficient level of English. We can direct you to services for English learning and for GED if needed. Trainees must also make arrangements for childcare.
We work with adults who have no computer skills and experience. We also work with individuals with CORI. -
What level of experience is required?
Level of experience and skills varies. Some of our trainees are new Americans who were professionals in their country of origin. Some of our trainees have had experience only in some industries like retail or food service. No matter what your level of experience is, we can assist you.
We do not hold anyone back. Our program is fast-paced and we have high expectations. Our internships are for entry-level skills but if you have a more advanced degree or extensive experience, we will work to match you with the right internship.
If you are newer to our curriculum, we have a dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and mentors to work during lunch or before and after training to give you individual extra assistance. -
What does “core skills” training mean?
Core skills are skills using computer software like Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. We also work on internet navigation and email. Trainees learn business skills like customer service and business math.
Craig, one of our recent graduates said that “the computer intimidated him before coming to Training, Inc.” He worked hard with us to develop these core computer skills and today he works as a computer technician at Wheelock College! That’s what we can do for you. -
How will a non-paid internship help me?
Our eight week non-paid internship will help you develop your skills with real experience. You will also get the chance to network. Fifty percent of internships lead to job offers. -
I am new to this country and I don’t have American work experience. Is that a problem?
No. We encourage you to join our program. We welcome diversity. Your multi-lingual ability is an asset to many Boston businesses. We have helped thousands of immigrants find careers in Boston. -
When you come to YMCA Training, Inc., we will give you an English placement test.
We may direct you to the YMCA International Learning Center to improve your English skills before joining our training program.
