About Us
The West Roxbury Y is proud to be part of the YMCA of Greater Boston, the largest provider of social services in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
In 1948, Helen Jane Sears was sent from the Boston YMCA to begin programs in the West Roxbury/Roslindale area. There was great volunteer support for the Y programs and an effort to build a Y. In 1950, the first phase of the West Roxbury YMCA was built. Programs included leaders club, social events such as dance and bible study as well as summer camp. In 1962, the swimming pool was added and in 1970 the gymnasium and racquetball courts were built.
Today, the West Roxbury YMCA services over 10,000 people with a variety of programs for seniors, families and children, including group exercise, personal training, massage therapy, babysitting services, aqua exercise, school age child care and much more. The facility features an indoor pool, steam room, sauna, gymnasium, group exercise studio, and more.
